CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING & SNOWSHOEING

Cross-Country Skiing (Nordic) and Snowshoeing Program

Students in the nordic program will learn how to cross-country ski or snowshoe at Rum Village City Park in South Bend. Instruction will be given in how to use the equipment, and students will learn basic cross-country skiing techniques.

One or two volunteers may work with each student, depending on the student's needs and the number of helpers on hand. Ultimately, the goal is for the student to learn the skills necessary to be able to ski on their own with family or friends. In years past we have found that once a student has learned to ski, they do not continue to do so unless family or friends ski also. In an effort to solve this problem, students are encouraged to bring family and/or friends along to learn to ski also. See our Cost page for more information on siblings and family members.

The nordic program will be held at on 6 consecutive Saturday mornings from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. beginning in early January. If there is not enough snow for skiing, we will have an alternate activity such as hiking.

While actual ski instruction begins in January, all students and parents are encouraged to attend an orientation meeting as well as a separate ski conditioning exercise session.
